Your Coffee Questions Answered by Ellen

I have to admit, being short on cash is not where I wanted to be when I pulled up...but I had to get my fix.

"Hi, this is Shelly..what sounds delicious today?"

"Hello Shelly - Um, a tall is a small right?"
(I have not worked at Starbucks unlike the other Java Joe Mama)
...
"Why yes it is"

I could almost hear her secretly chuckle thinking she was speaking with an amateur - little did she know who she was dealing with..I've ordered Starbucks in Germany for the love of Mike..

If she knew me at all, she would know I get a grande or a vente quad shot or better, today I forgot my card at home and only had three dollars and some quarters. Definitely not enough for my usual caramelicious number and I was off...way off.  The cup looked teeny tiny to me (I felt like a giant), it was too much milk because I couldn't afford the extra shot so I went home and made more espresso on the stove top, put it in a bigger cup, which required more milk and took away from any caramel deliciousness it ever wanted to have and I think may be the reason I am still up at 2:20am writing this post..

Ever been in this predicament, being thrown off from your normal coffee order?

If only someone had shown me this video...

I hope we've all learned something today and we know not to go to France for anything bigger than a shot glass.

Thanks so much for coming to see what the Java Joe Mamas are up to each week!  If you have a coffee question, please leave it in the comments or you can email us at:

I've ordered coffe all over Europe and I still have no idea what I am ordering... They combined the currency into the Euro, they should have a common name for all the coffe orders. Cafe au lait is cafe con Leche is... do they have coffe in England?

They didn't know what I was talking about in Germany either, I think I had to use my hands to reference something. I'm sure the coffee is tea in color in England..

Well I'm sure glad you found it! We already have tons in common with all the coffee we've drank..

Haha, that video makes me laugh, Ellen is awesome, but also when I was in Vegas I went to Starbucks and asked for a 20 oz (I was used to little coffee stands where you DO order by the ounce) the lady at Starbucks stared at me like I was an idiot until I gave her the proper name. I also have a tendency to forget to add the word "iced" or "frappuccino" in my order when I am in a hurry and end up with a regular warm mocha.

When that happens, just tell them you ordered it iced...I got both drink that way once.
I was brainstorming and came across the video last night, it seemed perfect.

Take it from someone who works for the company. Just order small, medium and large, please. At least do it in my store. It doesn't matter. Starbucks cares more about getting/keeping customers than having people use their sizing system. Trust me.

I love Starbucks. I do, really. I just hate it that it is so expensive - at least here in Spain it is.
A small one is over 3 euros.

it must be (so)... liberating

I have to be honest. I cannot keep the sizes straight to save my life! Glad Ellen could help.
