The Java Joe Mamas were out in full effect this week sampling some of the new goods at Starbucks they call Blondes. You've heard the hype, now hear the gripe. Personally, I found it to be darker than expected - this from someone who expected the Blonde roast to look more like tea than coffee. Not sure what I was thinking considering this is still Starbucks after all. On a regular basis, I do not choose Starbucks regular coffee as I go for the espresso drinks so I can get the extra shots to boost my coffee flavor. While that may make me a dark roast fan, I still don't think the new blend is what they are advertising. I think people are going to try this thinking like I did, that it would be more mild than the normal coffee which I really didn't think it was anymore mild. It still has that good old Starbucks kick to it. Here's what TRM had to say:So, as a die hard Buckster.. Not because I work for the company but I truly do love their coffee.
Until now.
Their line of Blondes came out this Tuesday and it's encouraged to try each type of coffee: Blonde, Medium and Dark. I love this idea. I love to try and do tastings. It's one of my favorite parts of my job. About 2% of the coffees don't appeal to me. Willow is one of those.
Two Blondes walk into a Starbucks... One named Willow, one named Veranda. This coffee whore tried the Willow and without cream or sugar it tasted like... An airhead.
While it had a crisp acidity, similar to Breakfast Blend is was ...blah. Really light, like too light. I thought it was pressed wrong so I asked for another sample. Same. No joke.
Ok, ok so I'm a dark roast fan. I drink espresso like its water but I can appreciate a lighter roast if it has flavor able characteristics. It was so mild and mild I was afraid cream and sugar would turn it into an "amateur"
Amateur: Coffee made with so much cream and sugar you can't taste the coffee. Example: "I'd like a Venti (20oz) Mocha with one shot"
So, does this review make you curious?
Does it make you want to try it yourself?
I say you provide us a question and I'll BUY a bag of Willow to giveaway to a random question, um, giver!!
Prove us wrong! Tell us why you think it's a good coffee.
I dare ya.

26 Lovely Thoughts:
This review sort of makes me glad that I gave up Starbucks for the New Year.
I'm headed up there this morning to try it. I don't expect to like it. I prefer a bold blend so much that I named my blog after it. lol
I am just going to stick with my GIANT ASS white chocolate mocha. They are so versatile, warm in the winter, iced in the summer, or hell turn it into a frap and you have heaven! Coming from the Starbucks capitol I fear change, and this just makes me fear change a little bit more!
Nice - I hope you let us know! Your blog is so cute Barbara!
How's that working for ya? I can make mine at home..are you?
Right change is bad..why is it I always get the same drink?
I can't disagree...I'm a dark roast kinda girl, too. I need to be able to taste the coffee (after floofing it up).
Hmmm... honestly, i don't have any interest in trying the blonde.... I like things medium/dark.
Mild you say? This coffee might just be right up my alley. When it comes to other things...men and um...men, I like em dark (shhh don't tell the husband), but coffee? The lighter the better. So you buyin me a bag or what?
Hi and thanks for stopping by Loving My Circle of Friends!
So if you wanna bag, post a question and you are entered!
I hate super mild coffee. I doubt I'd enjoy it at all.
I like/need mine strong. yum
I'm a Tim Hortons fan myself though, I can't bring myself to spend $20 on a coffee I can never seem to enjoy ..
But the specialty coffees are another story. LOVE
I'll enter a giveaway for some of those anytime. :)
It's going just fine for me. I haven't missed it one bit and my wallet is very happy. The money I would of spent on it I put into my savings jar. I don't even make it at home anymore.
I actually like the blonde. I had Veranda and, I agree it's not a "mild" coffee but it lacked the typical, almost "burnt" taste I get from Starbucks roasts. It was offered at my local grocery store & I tried it on a whim. The barista saw me & gave me a free sample, so I had a potful this morning. I'm a fan & may purchase some in the future. I'm curious to try Willow & see how different it is from Veranda.
I had my sample black no floofing, that may have had something to do with it..
It wasn't as blonde as one would expect..
Did you ask a question?
Hi Robin! Your blog is very cute, I like it there - thanks for stopping by!
Dude
Thanks Brittany, we may look into that..
Agreed - I tasted it and said, yep it tastes like Starbucks..that's the kick I was talking about...thanks for your feedback!
The Blondes reminded why we called Starbucks Charchucks LOL
I am a dark roast fan too! I like it dark and with a mild acidity which is hard to find. :) I mostly drink coffee pods (not k-cups) and drink the Miss Ellie's French Roast and Sumatra almost exclusively.
I haven't tried the Starbucks Blonde but I wasn't going to. I had a feeling it just wouldn't be my cup of joe.
Just found your blog and I'm loving it! I work at an online coffee retailer so it's nice to see someone as passionate about coffee as I am! I'm your newest follower. Have a great Sunday! :)
I'm one of those...I like coffee with my cream and sugar. So this sounds like a great idea to me! However, I have never gone to Starbucks to just order a coffee. It's normally a dessert style selection for me.
Now following on Twitter and GFC.
I'm not sure if I'd like it or not. generally I am a huge fan of Strabucks Lattes, and I think they make the best white mocha I've had so far. BUT, they are not my go-to coffee for just a cup' o joe. Too bitter.
I love you Rosie!
