Everybody has a Klout Story - What's Yours?

Klout was once one of my daily check-ins, seeing who gave out +K, announcing on Twitter who I give it to, seeing if my topics changed - or what crazy subject they might have given me this week. (I mean, Edmonton Oilers, seriously? Really?  I'm from Chicago..)

I have recently, in the past few months, seen a couple open letters to Klout about not having a score or just in question of the true validity of what they are recording and the information that they are presenting.

I wasn't really paying all that much attention to my score since then, based on these letters from people who I trusted and I'm glad because here's what happened to mine in the course of a couple days...

  • KLOUT SCORE: Previously, my score had been closer to 60 than 50, that being before the "change" in algorithms or whatever it was they changed but it went from 51 here down to 43 - then back up...

  • AMPLIFICATION: Apparently completely unrelated, or just intentionally meant to drive one to the brink of insanity, my Amplification which was holding pretty steady at about 13-15 suddenly made an all time high of what - 32? and then right back down...hm.  Also unrelated, my Network also went UP that same day.

I don't really even have an opinion about this - although I'm sure I would have if it had still been one of my daily check-ins.  (I haven't checked my score since..) I also know everyone is in a different relationship with Klout so I am really curious what you all have to say..

So here's my questions:
Do you have a Klout story or are you still giving +K?  When was the last time you checked your score?
Are they just testing to see who is active at this point?
What do you think?

I haven't been on in a few months and I actually deleted my account a little while back. I just didn't think the scores had all the much meaning to them. It became exhausted to check it all the time and to keep my score up.

It's probably better you don't know...

Me too! I should just delete my account..

I don't think so - you know my whole philosophy on this...

I noticed I don't influence anyone with any higher than a 20 anymore. I think most of my friends are done playing that game..

I think Klout is insane. I can't remember the last time I checked it. Although I do love receiving it and giving it. It's like when someone gives you a cookie; it's delicious but it doesn't mean they want to marry you. Maybe it just means they made too many cookies and need to give some away before their ass explodes. Maybe this is the worst Klout analogy ever.

Jeez, now you've really thrown me! I've just cottoned on to Klout and now having read this, I'm beginning to regret it!! I can see that it's very addictive but I'm not liking the idea of things going down....only going up! Anyway Twitter is the greatest power tool. I saw that Amberr had retweeted this so I checked up and now I am here! YAY! and thank you :))

I'm glad you decided to stop by - just know if you do stay, not to freak out if it happens to you!

It IS like someone giving you a cookie! I see how it happens like that - exploding asses and all..nobody looks at it the way you do :)

Klout doesn't really interest me but for those that want some K, I'm happy to log in and give it to them when I have time. My influence online is and will always be based on the content I create and the relationships that I build. An algorithm can track those things very well.

I haven't checked Klout in months. Not really interested anymore for some reason.

Klout is like a cleaned up version of who's hot and who's not. Didn't Mark Z. & his college cohorts do something like that before launching Facebook? I give Klout when I'm procrastinating and it's certainly fun to make fun of the topics. For a while I was influential in ducks and money. Go figure.

A few months back a friend and I did a little Klout test to see if we could make her influential in tiaras. We conversed on Twitter about tiaras, she linked to a column she wrote about tiaras and we even covered the topic on Facebook. No go. Klout evidently doesn't think tiaras are a legitimate topic. It's designers obviously haven't watched much reality T.V.

ugh...I am so mad at klout. I do about the same thing EVERY day. Once I was silent all day only to go look at Klout the next day and my score was HIGHER. It keeps falling, falling, falling yet I am not doing anything different. Just for you I am going to look real fast...Okay..apparently it's 57...The graph looks like a freaking Roller Coaster though. No one does the +K anymore on my list anyways so I don't know how much it matters? I miss the perks though. I'm rambling...

I am extremely clueless about Klout, but for some reason, it's kind of enjoyable. I think I just like the idea of the free perks, really. I love free stuff!

I deleted my Klout account after the algorithm change. I was holding steady around a 63 for quite a while. I didn't change my behaviors but, my score was tanking regardless of whether I was online or not. And the topics it said I was influential about were insane... "Justin Bieber?" and "Reading, Pennsylvania?" I can't stand The Biebs and never talk about him online... and I live in AL and have never been to Reading! It made no sense.

You know I jumped on the Klout bandwagon when it first came out and thought it was interesting. Then there was the reconfiguration, and the hue and cry over this reconfiguration. When that was followed by their refusal to disclose how they got their numbers, I kinda stopped participating as much. I noticed others dropped off to in handing out their K+s and such. I guess I'm taking a wait and see attitude toward Klout.

I haven't deleted my account but my interest is not there anymore

Exactly - thanks Barbara!

Seems to be the trend going around

The subjects are crazy..

CoffeeLovinMom said...

Ramble on lady! I was also in the top 3 influencers in coffee topping starbucks, doubt that's the case anymore..

CoffeeLovinMom said...

It might be better to stay where you are - I don't think I even qualify for the free perks anymore..

CoffeeLovinMom said...

You were smart - I'm still complaining...that would be like me getting K in the beibs. We talked about tmbg enough but only got as close as music for a subject - apparently we didn't try hard enough for klout..
