Funny Thing Happened on My Way to Sky Dive!

I knew having to get up at 6am for this was probably not a good idea considering I don't work anymore and can sleep in with the kids being off school till about 9ish on average. I know, lazy summer in deed - I am lucky my kids have never been early risers.  So it probably goes without saying I was not quite awake or anywhere near my optimum coffee intake at 6:50 when I was pulling out of the garage and about took my mirror off with the side of the garage. Crunch!  STRIKE ONE

Athens Grill in Lowell, IN - The Real Story

So while family is in from out of town, we always share lots of meals.  My Iowa family comes in always jonesing for White Castle and GYROS since they can't get either in their part of the woods.  We happen to have a little Greek place here in town - Lowell IN - called ATHENS GRILL.  We decided to try it this time instead of going closer to Chicago for a greasy spoon. This had everything we were looking for.

Athens Grill in Lowell, IN

Why it's worth it:

  • GOOD FOOD: We ordered a couple of gyro platters that fed 5 adults and I gotta say it was as good if not better than any I've tried, very authentic.  They even serve breakfast all day - we will have to try this!
  • GREAT SERVICE: the service was more than outstanding.  We ordered soup but realized when we got home we didn't get it, I called the place to see if I could get a credit and he (who sounded like he may have been the owner) told me it would be delivered to my house within minutes.
  • GREAT PRICES: You can see by the menu below, it's relatively easy on the pocketbook depending of course on how many people you have to feed.
  • I would definitely recommend this for anyone looking for a good Greek place

Athens Grill Menu

Athens Menu

When I first called to see if there was a menu online that we could look at, sadly they do not have a website. The lady went through a whole schpeel about how difficult the menu was to find, I had to go to NWI something and that would lead me somewhere else...

I did find what I was looking for after a longwinded search so I decided to put it here, on a local blog with an easy name that ATHENS GRILL can tell people to look when they want the menu online.

Next time I will try some of the breakfast choices and see if their quality of coffee matches their quality customer service!

52 Weeks of Happiness - Week 19

My son the snorkeler...

He spent most of his time at the beach with his face
in Lake Michigan...

He was searching for something and came up with treasured half shells..

If ever we couldn't spot him, we just had to look for the snorkel sticking out of the water...

AAhhh Summer!

20 Second Fitness The Real Story: Week 6 Done!

We have as a family completed the 20 Second Fitness Six Week Program, and I will say that it has become a habit now - even if some are less enthusiastic about it. Enjoy a fun little taste of the full 12 minute workout in less than three minutes...

(music brought to you by They Might Be Giants)

You can see The Real Story journey from the beginning:

{Sorry I didn't post for Week Five}

I am proud to say they all stuck with me!  I enjoy that we are spending another hour and a half a week doing something as a family, however, doing these workouts 6 days a week every week has been a test of discipline and endurance - both of which have been built up to a higher level in the last six weeks.  I am happy I didn't have to do this alone, it really helps to have others to help encourage or challenge you.  We have already started doing the last week over again, my husband has bought 15 pound weights so we are committed and plan to cycle through the entire program again.

I will be posting after pictures from the first six weeks this week once I retake mine..I wore different shorts in the second one and it's just not right.  My husband has had a dramatic change just from looking at the picture - I will have him step on the scale before I post and have all the details then.  In the meantime, you can look at my recent MEASUREMENTS (from 7-1)

OR..

If you are interested in purchasing 20 Second Fitness with their 60-day money-back guarantee and hassle free returns, I have a special coupon code for you to use to get FREE SHIPPING in the Continental United States and a $15 discount for orders to Canada and overseas.

20 Second Fitness coupon code: 'coffee lovin mom'.

Here is what is included in the 20 Second Fitness Program:

  • 40 Workouts on 6 DVDs
  • Set of Gym quality resistance bands
  • Food Guide to Smarter Eating
  • Wall calendar to track progress and success
  • Adjustable jump rope

So there you have it, the easiest tutorial that doesn't come in the Twitter manual - in three easy steps!  Now you can enter my contests (or you know, the ones you wanted to enter) and tweet your little heart out!

Gevalia 1853 Heritage Blend Coffee GIVEAWAY! {CLOSED}

I was recently approached by Gevalia to sample and review their Special 1853 Heritage Blend live on Bean Chat which is a live chat every Thursday on Facebook at 10am ET.  I will be doing my review at the end of the hour and would love if you decided to join!  I'm not really sure what to expect being that I've never really done a live chat like this before so I would appreciate all support you wanna give!

I will be talking about my review of the coffee which is quite smooth in taste and mild flavor being a medium roast which my husband liked because he's not into strong tasting coffee with a bitter aftertaste at all.  It is full bodied but less acidic than you would expect from such a rich flavored coffee.  I have not met a coffee I didn't like so I enjoyed every sip of the nutty background and caramel undertones.  I normally prefer a stronger coffee so I would consider this mild unless of course I was more liberal with how much coffee I use which happens quite often around here.

Being a coffee addict and already a member of the  Gevalia Continuation Club, I am excited to be a part of this promotion they are doing  - their gift to you -  this Special 1853 Heritage Blend and the commemorative tin for not one but TWO LUCKY READERS!!! As an extra bonus, and to complete the Coffee Giveaway Trifecta with a bang, I will be giving a THIRD winner 2 BONUS MUGS!  All prizes combined value over $50 so be sure and tell all your friends!

    52 Weeks of Happiness - Week 18

We have made it part of our summer family tradition to make at least one Railcats game if not a good handful.  The tickets are way cheaper than any pro game and at this point, the kids don't really know the difference.

The Railcats are a minor league out of Gary, Indiana and the kids love the whole thing, the cheering, the snacks, the dancing, the singing Take Me Out to the Ballgame in the seventh inning and of course running the bases at the end of the game, which my daughter came in third running in her flip flops!

Their ultimate favorite part by far are the mascots that are a couple of crazy cats named Rusty and Rascal who have a great time competing against each other between innings and playing tricks on each other.

Also they like to ham it up!

Each of the kids acquired a ball at the last game we went to over the holiday weekend - one has only Rusty's autograph and the other has only Rascal's if that says anything about their love of mascots...my daughter also wanted to know if Rusty was wearing his underpants.
