My favorite fun "underground" band from the late 80's turned kid friendly.
Thanks They Might Be Giants, they love you almost as much as I do.
I am glad my kids get the experience of the Johns.
Particle Man and Exquisite Dead Guy will have to wait till they're a little older..

I Like to Drink Coofee - A Six Year Old's Take

Yep, it happened.

The secret is out that my six year old likes coffee.

A LOT Apparently...

I have a feeling this was most likely after we had our first demitasse party...

Which was mostly milk...
and a little sugar..

She loved it anyway!

Enough to write a whole story about it.

I think I'm the licky one!

My First Book Dedication - I Couldn't Be More Proud!

Each of the kids came home the last day of school with a lovely book of memories.

My son's was a Poetry Anthology:

(gotta love the self-portrait)

which included all of the poems they worked on throughout the year.

I turned the first couple of pages and I was touched knowing he dedicated this book to me, his dear mother who he loves so...third grade is so fun,
they're still so friggin sweet!

Then the second page that describes him in
his own words...

I know he wants to be a soldier or in some branch
of the military and when or I'd like to say if that
day comes, I will more than likely need some
good anti-depressants.
He definitely takes after me with the sleeping habits, I swear we've had the vampire talk and maybe we need to have a chat about mortality..

I like that he believes in God and yet, we have not been to church except for any weddings and the one baptism we attended that he can remember.

He's the nicest, smartest and most loyal nine year old I know that deserves to live forever.

I do love that his final destination is home - it brought a tear to my eye - and hope that it always will be!

I will post the daughter's cute story about coffee that probably had the teacher's wondering what goes on around here later today...

20 Second Fitness The Real Story: Week 4 - Day 2

So yesterday, I finally cut the jumprope that came with the 20 Second Fitness Program which is totally adjustable to whatever length you need it to be. I had a feeling that jumping rope was coming as we hadn't seen it since  WEEK ONE WARMUP -  we all just jumped that day because there was only one rope. My daughter also found a jumprope yesterday suddenly unburied from the rubble that may be the closet with the toybox that exploded..

Anyway, here's our skills:

We may have been better off just jumping, it could go either way...

We usually do our workout in the early evening either before or shortly after dinner depending on what else is going on. Last evening we did the first 4 minute set which is followed by the cardio 4 minute set which - I'm telling you, wears even the kids out: I gotta tell them to get off the couch, no lie.  I expected the cardio set to include jumping rope.

Nope, our old pal
Spence surprised us at the end of the heart pumping cardio including my
complete nemesis NOW TOPPING THE DREADMILL absolute favorite

the L   O   N   G  E  S  T 20 Seconds of 20 Second Fitness
THAT NOW - Breathing heavy already and sweating we were in for an extra added bonus set of jumping rope!!

After cursing his name ** taking a break, we did those extra 3 minutes making this the longest workout to date being 11 minutes total.  By the last 20 second set, I was able to jump the whole 20 seconds without flubbing it all up by tripping all over it.

Now I didn't mean to lie but I told you last week that I would post my measurements and stuff Friday, but I remembered #blogboycottday was Friday then #wineparty happened which resulted in me being absolutely useless on Saturday and so anyway HERE THEY ARE.  No big changes in weight but the inches are reducing and I am back in my jeans!  WOO HOO!

Here is what is included in the 20 Second Fitness Program:
  • 40 Workouts on 6 DVDs
  • Set of Gym quality resistance bands
  • Food Guide to Smarter Eating
  • Wall calendar to track progress and success
  • Adjustable jump rope

**We never really curse his name, we just thank him with sarcasm.

Rockin' The Bump - Shotgun Style

Yes you are seeing right, these are also wedding pictures.

We got engaged in March and I found out I was preggers that following Mother's Day.

My wedding I planned for June 2002 ended up being moved up a year to August 2001 - I was 5 months when we walked down the aisle...the photographer did a decent job of hiding what everyone knew..

Lastly, but certainly not least (amount of weight) - that one taken late New Year's Eve going into 2002 when I was swollen and ready to bust at the seams..I swear my nose even widened on that one.
My son was born on the 12th of January.

I linked up over with Shell at Things I Can't Say and cannot wait to see all the others participating in Rockin' the Bump!

There is still time if you want to join in, let's show off the bump ladies!  The link will be open until Monday.

Something I Just Tried - Turtle Pecan Biscotti!

Anyone that knows coffee knows that a good biscotti makes a coffee break that much better.  I found a delightfully sinful and sweet little number last week by Nonni's brand and wanted to share with you what I thought.  First I have to admit, I am a sucker for anything caramel so when I saw these turtle pecan flavored biscotti, I just had a hunch they would be right up my alley!

As you can see by the picture, the bottom is dipped in chocolate which would make anyone's day.

I love to dip my biscotti in my coffee with each bite and it kept a great consistency without falling apart.

The pecans and slight toffee texture of the caramel kept it crunchy even though it was melting in my mouth and that with the melted chocolate from the hot coffee made it a little bit of heaven at only 110 calories.

I apologize for not taking a picture of an actual biscotti but they didn't last that long..they were that good!

You will have to try one for yourself and see if it makes your cuppa joe a little sweeter!

Please note: I was not paid or given anything free for this post and this endorsement was not coerced in any way.  I just like to share stuff I think is worth it - the opinions and tastebuds reported here are true and happy!

20 Second Fitness The Real Story: Week 3 - Day 3

Today is day three of the first "real" week of workouts on our 20 Second Fitness journey. Not that the first two warm-up weeks weren't real workouts. Week one varied between 4 and 5 minutes of FULL intensity and easily conditioned us to get us up to the second warm-up week which were six days of 7 minute workouts.

This week is varying between 8-10 minutes and focuses more on specific muscle groups, then goes through a set of cardio. Each set is four exercises at two 20 second intervals which takes 4 minutes each. Then every other day, Spencer sneaks an extra 2 minute set in on us (with a big smile of course!). Today was calf raises for two minutes so my family room looked like this:

Now I'm not gonna lie because I'm giving you the REAL story here - I don't exactly love these workouts and some 20 seconds are much longer than others depending on what exercise you are doing. I could probably do a few more seconds of planks where with fast feet, I'm already looking for the time to be up after about the first 8 seconds.

The cardio sets make us all breathe hard and sweat and I moan and groan - probably more than I should but sometimes I think it helps me get through it. I think the real reason for this not loving thing is because it is FULL intensity where I am used to doing things half-assed.  I never did things to my full extent when I was working out at the gym - I'll admit that I'm a lazy exerciser but I will tell you this:  this program pretty much prohibits you from being lazy!  The whole theory is to work out at your hardest at your own level but for those 20 seconds to give it everything you have so there's no room for stopping.
Monday we did diamond push-ups which I have never even thought about attempting before and I only did 9 in 20 seconds...I did what I could do and I know that I will be able to do more next time.  I started out only doing 13 regular push-ups in 20 seconds and have worked my way up to 18 and once even 20!

I will also tell you this: after 15 days of this workout program, I am feeling a difference in the way I stand and the way I look. I feel stronger and am able to do more reps each time we do an exercise, so there's the proof in the pudding.  Plus it's over so quick even though those 20 seconds can seem long, it's not been more than 10 minutes so far which beats an hour at the gym any old day! My husband has lost 3 pounds already - in 15 workouts.  I will be measuring and weighing in on Friday and I have a feeling I will be pleased with the results so far.

So there you have it - the real story so far...
I hope you will stay tuned for Friday's results.
